Coral and Pearls

Shabnam’s album Coral and Pearls is now available.

Australian singer-songwriter Shabnam has sung with various groups and bands over many years, including on tour throughout Australia and Europe with youth theatre company Wildfire World Theatre, on whose soundtrack recordings she is featured.

Her highly anticipated new solo album, Coral and Pearls, was released in May 2008. On ten beautiful new tracks, her clear, pure vocals blend with a great acoustic band featuring everything from mandolin and guitar, to violin, piano and cor anglais.

The album is a mix of original songs (like the haunting On the Front Page) and sung versions of prayers and sacred quotes from the writings of the Bahá’í Faith. These spiritual words have inspired Shabnam, who over the last few years has set them to music, using English translations from the original Arabic or Persian (although on one track she sings in both English and Arabic - check out her pronunciation, not bad for a girl born in Townsville!). Some of these tracks were first composed and performed at friends’ weddings (A Wedding Prayer, Sweet-Scented Streams, Coral and Pearls, Shield Them), while others are popular Bahá’í prayers (A Healing Prayer, Remover of Difficulties).

Over the next year Shabnam will, whenever possible, be performing the songs from Coral and Pearls live. In the meantime, pick up the album, and let the music of this talented artist uplift and inspire you.
